SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - KXII-TV 12 Media, the Sherman Independent School District, and the Denison Independent School District are pleased to announce a moving of the date of this year’s Battle of the Ax high school football game between the Sherman Bearcats and Denison Yellow Jackets to make a live television broadcast of the game available to all fans. This year’s annual meeting between the two rivals will kick off on Thursday, September 24, at 7 p.m. from Denison’s Munson Stadium and will be broadcast on KXII’s MyNetwork channel 12.2 and streamed live online by KXII, as well as the SISD Athletics Mobile App. Both school districts agreed to move the game to Thursday to accommodate UIL broadcast restrictions in place for the game’s original date, Friday, September 25, and both teams’ many fans who would not be able to attend the game in person due to a stadium capacity restrictions in place for this year mandated by UIL in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The annual Battle of the Ax is always a sell-out game, and ordinarily we would expect this year to be no different,” Denison ISD Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott said. “We are under orders to allow only 50% capacity in our stadiums due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That will severely limit our ability to accommodate everyone who wants to see this very special football game.” “Because of COVID-19, and U.I.L. capacity restrictions that will significantly decrease the number of tickets that can be sold, our ability to accommodate everyone who wants to attend this very special football game in person will be greatly limited,” Sherman ISD said in a press release Thursday. “KXII-TV 12 has provided a great solution to this problem by offering to televise the game live,” both districts said in press releases Thursday. “We are pleased to be able to offer this broadcast as a service to our communities,” KXII Vice President & General Manager Rick Dean said. “We look forward to giving fans of both schools the chance to watch this game, which is so important to our area.” KXII’s David Reed and Travis Buckner will anchor coverage live from Munson Stadium. The game will be rebroadcast the night of the game on KXII’s FOX station (12.3), and on our MyNetwork station (12.2) on Saturday, September 26. Additional information regarding ticket sales and how to stream the game live will be made available in the coming days. Copyright 2020 KXII. All rights reserved....
